Max Verstappen won the last race
F1 moves to Monaco this weekend for the most iconic race of the season. However, there is some big news in the store for us. For the first time ever, the Monaco GP will feature a mandatory two-stop rule. The new introduction is done to improve the racing spectacle. This rule applies to both dry and wet conditions, and could be a game-changer for a track where overtaking is famously difficult.
Last year, a red flag meant most drivers didn’t even pit once. But this year, F1 hopes this new rule, along with Pirelli’s three softest tyre compounds, will add a little more strategic variety.
Talking about the race stats for this season, the championship battle seems to be heating up. Oscar Piastri is leading the standings, but his McLaren teammate Lando Norris is just 13 points behind. Max Verstappen has closed in to just 22 points off the lead after his recent win at Imola.
We’ll also get to witness Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc return to his home race after his emotional win in Monaco last year. However, Ferrari will need to put up a standout performance to challenge the front-runners.
