Almost every WWE championship is not being defended at Saturday Night’s Main Event 2025
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event is officially back for its third installment since being revived last year, and this weekend’s show promises some explosive action.
The card features several blockbuster matches, including a high-profile tag team bout with CM Punk and Sami Zayn teaming up against Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker.
In other major matches, John Cena is set to compete, World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso will defend his title against Logan Paul, and Damian Priest will clash with Drew McIntyre inside a steel cage at Saturday Night’s Main Event May 2025. However, what’s caught the attention of fans is the surprising lack of championship matches on the card.
Despite the presence of several top champions across Raw and SmackDown, only one title is scheduled to be defended during the special Saturday Night’s Main Event May 2025. This has raised eyebrows among fans who were expecting a more title-heavy lineup.
Notably, The Street Profits, Tiffany Stratton, Jacob Fatu, and Zelina Vega are currently not advertised to defend their championships at the event. With SmackDown still to air before the big show, there’s still a chance for last-minute additions, but as it stands, many champions are set to miss out.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at every WWE champion who, surprisingly, isn’t scheduled to put their gold on the line at Saturday Night’s Main Event. From titleholders on hot streaks to recent winners, these absences are as puzzling as they are exciting, because in WWE, anything can change in an instant.
Undisputed WWE championship – John Cena
John Cena is undeniably one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time. A 16-time world champion and the face of the company for over a decade following the Attitude Era, Cena’s legacy is already cemented and a Hall of Fame induction is only a matter of time.
With retirement on the horizon, Cena has made it clear that he plans to wrap up his legendary career this December, barring any unexpected changes.
Currently in his 17th world title reign, Cena shocked the world by capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania, defeating Cody Rhodes with a controversial assist from hip-hop star Travis Scott.
While other champions may be sitting out, Cena will be competing at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, his match against longtime fan-favorite R-Truth is set as a non-title contest. Unless plans shift at the last minute, Cena won’t be putting his championship on the line this weekend.
Intercontinental Championship – Dominik Mysterio
Dominik Mysterio was previously one of WWE’s most despised superstars. The audience’s hatred has recently faded, and Dirty Dom is now being cheered in some settings.
The youthful Mysterio is the current Intercontinental Champion. He, too, captured the coveted belt at WrestleMania 41.
To win the championship, Mysterio defeated his Judgment Day stablemates Finn Balor, Penta, and Bron Breakker in a Fatal Four-Way Match.
Since then, Dominik has successfully defended his championship against Penta, despite interference from El Grande Americano. After successfully defending his gold at Backlash, Dirty Dom appears to be staying away from Saturday night’s main event.
Women’s Intercontinental Championship – Lyra Valkyria
Lyra Valkyria is another of the best in-ring wrestlers around today. Following her success on NXT UK and NXT, she joined the main roster last year and delivered banger after banger.
Fans lovingly refer to her as the “bird lady.” She is the current WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. She is the first person to wield the renowned belt, having earned it in the finals of a competition in January.
Lyra successfully defended her championship against Becky Lynch in Backlash. While the two’s conflict is far from finished, it does not appear like they will face off again on Saturday Night’s Main Event, since no championship match has been set.
World Tag Team Championship – Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods
The New Day is one of the finest pairings in WWE history, but they were once a trio. Unfortunately, Big E had a terrible neck injury in 2022 and has not returned to the ring.
Last year, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston surprisingly turned against Big E and booted him out of the stable. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods captured the World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 41.
Despite their enormous ability, they beat The War Raiders in a poor battle. While the SmackDown tag team scene is thriving, RAW’s is faltering somewhat. Unfortunately, their momentum does not appear to alter in the near future, as The New Day will not defend their belts at this weekend’s important event.
WWE Women’s Champion – Tiffany Stratton
Tiffany Stratton has been on fire since capturing the WWE Women’s Championship, but her current rivalry with Nia Jax has kept fans guessing.
With SmackDown set to air before Saturday Night’s Main Event, it’s still unclear if “Tiffy Time” will make the cut. For now, she’s not scheduled to appear.
WWE Tag Team Champions – The Street Profits
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have been dominant as the WWE Tag Team Champions, but surprisingly, The Street Profits are not currently listed for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Unless something changes after SmackDown, it looks like the fan-favorite duo will be sitting this one out.
Women’s World Champion – Iyo Sky
Iyo Sky has quietly become one of WWE’s most accomplished international stars. She won the Women’s World Championship by defeating Rhea Ripley on the March 3, 2025 episode of RAW and retained it at WrestleMania.
Many expected a rematch at Backlash or Saturday Night’s Main Event, but that never materialized. As of now, Iyo isn’t scheduled to defend her title at the May 2025 edition of SNME, and there’s no official word on when she’ll be back in action. With Money in the Bank around the corner, her next challenger may emerge there.
United States Champion – Jacob Fatu
Jacob Fatu has been making waves since capturing the United States Championship, most recently defending it successfully in a chaotic Fatal 4-Way match at WWE Backlash against LA Knight, Damian Priest, and Drew McIntyre.
As his alliance with Solo Sikoa grows increasingly unstable, Fatu finds himself at a crossroads—torn between standing tall as a dominant singles champion or remaining under the looming influence of The Bloodline.
Despite his surging momentum and rising popularity, Fatu is currently not scheduled to defend his title at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Whether WWE has bigger plans brewing or simply saving him for another stage remains to be seen.
Women’s United States Champion – Zelina Vega
Zelina Vega made history recently by becoming the first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion, defeating Chelsea Green on an episode of SmackDown.
The fiery LWO member has long been praised for her heart, resilience, and underdog spirit and now she finally has championship gold to show for it.
Vega has quickly embraced her new role, representing the division with pride and purpose. However, despite her fresh title reign and growing momentum, she’s not yet booked for Saturday Night’s Main Event.
As one of WWE’s most passionate and determined competitors, fans are eager to see when she’ll get her first big title defense.
