Former World No #1 Kidambi Srikanth will face China’s Li Shi Feng in the men’s singles final at the Malaysia Masters 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. Srikanth, who is still chasing a maiden BWF World Tour title, will be confident of a result in his favour on Sunday having come through the qualifiers to reach the title clash in Kuala Lumpur.
He defeated Yuki Tanaka of Japan in straight games in the semis to book his place in the title match. In the quarter-finals, Srikanth had beaten Toma Junior Popov of France.
While this is his only second final appearance in the BWF World Tour—he came second best to Viktor Axelsen in the 2019 India Open—Srikanth is a World Championships, Asian Games and CWG medallist. His last final match in any BWF event came in 2021 when he bagged silver at the World Championships after going down against a then young Loh Kean Yew.
A former World No #1, Srikanth is now ranked #65 in the BWF rankings and had to come through the qualifiers for a spot in the main draw. Earlier, he started his campaign with wins over two Chinese Taipei shuttlers to make the main draw.
In the opening round, the 32-year-old then took down sixth seeded Lu Guang Zu before entering the quarter-finals with a straight games win over Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen.
This will be Srikanth’s fifth meeting with Li Shi Feng, who is also making his maiden final appearance of the season. The Chinese leads the head-to-head record 3-1, with his latest win coming earlier this year at the Swiss Open round of 16.
