A complaint against Virat Kohli has been added to the Bengaluru stampede case.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise conducted a victory celebration at M Chinnaswamy Stadium after their team won the trophy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, their victory celebration turned into a horror as 11 people were killed during a stampede near the stadium.
A total of 47 people have also been injured in the incident, as per the reports. The victory celebration was organised by RCB, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment. Hence, a complaint was lodged by the Bengaluru police against them in the matter.
Moreover, police have also made three arrests in the matter. An RCB employee and two employees of DNA Entertainment have been arrested under sections 105, 118, and 120 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal negligence.
Bengaluru activist files complaint against Virat Kohli
A Bengaluru activist, HM Venkatesh, has filed a complaint against Virat Kohli in the matter. He reported the case at the Cubban Park Police Station and held Kohli responsible for the tragedy. Therefore, police have added the complaint against Kohli in the ongoing investigation.
Virat Kohli returned to London on Thursday from Mumbai Airport. After the incident, he paid condolences to the victims on social media. RCB franchise also expressed their grief on the matter and offered financial assistance of INR 10 lakh to the families of 11 fans, who lost their lives.
The Karnataka state government has also offered a compensation of INR 10 lakh to the victims and medical assistance. Meanwhile, RCB won the title on June 3, and their players reached Bengaluru on June 4 for the celebrations.
They were felicitated by the Karnataka Chief Minister and other leaders at Vidhan Soudha. The RCB players were felicitated inside the stadium. However, a stampede occurred near the gates of the stadium.
Notably, the crowd capacity at M Chinnaswamy Stadium is 40 thousand. However, four or five times more people arrived at the stadium for the victory celebrations to watch their favourite players.
