Pat Cummins returned with the figures of 6/28, which is the best by any bowler in the final of the ICC WTC.
Australia Cricket Team skipper Pat Cummins achieved an incredible feat in the history of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). He became just the third bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the final of the tournament and also now has the best bowling figures in the summit clash.
Pat Cummins achieved the feat in the ongoing ICC WTC 2023-25 final between Australia and South Africa. The match between the two teams is underway at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, which commenced on Wednesday (11th June).
After Australia, who were asked to bat first, got all out for just 212, skipper Pat Cummins took charge with the ball and made sure that he put his team in a dominating position. The pacer bowled magnificent lines and lengths and seemed unplayable.
Pat Cummins entered his name in the wickets column with the wicket of Wiaan Mulder on day one. However, after that, he didn’t look back as he kept providing his team with the wickets at regular intervals. His best came during the ongoing day two of the match.
Pat Cummins sent his South African counterpart Temba Bavuma packing for 36 runs and then removed Kyle Verreynne (13), Marco Jansen, David Bedingham (45) and Kagiso Rabada (1) to take a brilliant six-fer. His heroics with the ball saw Australia end the opposition’s innings for just 138, taking a lead of 74 runs.
Pat Cummins returned with the figures of 6/28, which is the best by any bowler in the final of the ICC WTC. He also joined Kyle Jamieson and Kagiso Rabada to become the bowler with a fifer in the final of the summit clash. Notably, he also completed 300 test wickets for Australia. Also, he is the first bowler to take six-fer in the ICC WTC finals.
This was the ninth five-wicket haul for Pat Cummins as a captain in tests. He surpassed Bishan Singh Bedi to bag the joint second spot in the list.

For any fast bowler 300 is a big number – Pat Cummins
Talking about his performance, Pat Cummins said that he is happy that Australia got a decent lead. He also talked about the milestone of 300 wickets, and while speaking to broadcasters, he said:
“It’s great, got some family as well here, which is nice. Came out after lunch with them looking good and bowled well. Pretty happy to have a decent lead at the moment. It’s way more than I could have asked for, for any fast bowler 300 is a big number, niggles, injuries and played for a long time, so pretty happy. When the ball is soft, it’s easier to bat, but it still feels like the odd ball is nipping, feel we bowled well,” he said.
