Indian women’s team hit rock bottom; drop to 70th rank in latest FIFA rankings

India has now dropped to their lowest rank ever – 70

Just as the Indian Senior Men’s team keeps slipping down in the FIFA rankings, the women’s team story isn’t any different. The Blue Tigresses, who once showed promise and potential, are mirroring the men’s team’s descent quietly and painfully.

India’s women’s football team suffered their second consecutive defeat to Uzbekistan, exposing their tactical gaps and missed chances in crucial moments. While the team showed flashes of potential, the back-to-back losses speak about the need for introspection and structural changes as they prepare for tougher challenges ahead.

India drop to their lowest rank ever

In the span of two years, India’s women’s team has slipped nine spots in the FIFA world rankings—from 60 in June 2023 to 69 in March 2025. The fall hasn’t been sharp—it’s been slow, quiet and consistent in a negative way. A downward curve like this doesn’t just reflect a lack of match wins. It reflects failure of the team that is losing all the chances they had to rise.

The Indian Women’s team has never climbed a single rank since 2023. For the first time in history, the Indian women’s football team has dropped to its lowest-ever FIFA ranking—70. The decline, while gradual, points to stagnation. Despite talent and potential, the team under the guidance of Santosh Kashyap there has been an absence of exposure, good investments and long-term planning has left the team struggling.

The National team carry the dreams of a nation are faltering. But they still show up, fight with all their might, and hope for better. This can only be done with support, with structure and with serious intent. Indian football deserves more and the women who fight for it definitely deserve better.

The Indian women’s team have failed to win their last four competitive matches, not even scoring a single goal in the process. They are currently scheduled to return to action on 23rd June 2025 when they face off against Mongolia in their next AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualification game.
