NEW DELHI: Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg on Thursday expressed condolences following the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad, and pledged the company’s full support for the investigation.“Our deepest condolences go out to the loved ones of the passengers and crew on board Air India Flight 171, as well as everyone affected in Ahmedabad,” Ortberg said in an official statement. “I have spoken with Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran to offer our full support, and a Boeing team stands ready to support the investigation led by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau.”
The aircraft involved in the crash was a Boeing-made jet, prompting scrutiny into the plane’s manufacturing and maintenance history. However, Boeing stated that it will defer to India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to provide all official information related to the incident.The company emphasised that it is following international norms under the United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) protocol, known as Annex 13, which mandates that local authorities take the lead in such investigations.
