India have won 18 medals in the opening four days of the event.

As Asian Athletics Championships 2025 heads into its final day, India will be aiming to surpass its 2017 record of nine gold medals—the country’s highest ever at the event. In the men’s javelin throw, Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh will be eyeing podium finishes in a highly competitive field. However, they have their task cut out, with Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem also among the contenders.

On the track, Animesh Kujur, who has impressed through the rounds, will be eyeing a breakthrough in the men’s 200m final, while Nithya Gandhe and Jyothi Yarraji will line up in the women’s 200m final, both seeking to convert their season-best form into medals.

The hurdles and middle-distance events also offer significant medal prospects. Vithya Ramraj and Anu Raghavan, both consistent performers this season, will contest the women’s 400m hurdles final, aiming to secure a spot on the podium.

In the women’s 5000m final, Sanjivani Baburao and Parul Chaudhary will take on Asia’s best distance runners, with Parul in particular looking to add to her already impressive championship record.

The women’s 800m final will see Twinkle Chaudhary and Pooja in action, while Anu Kumar and Krishan Kumar will represent India in the men’s 800m final, both with realistic hopes of a top finish.

The day will conclude with the women’s 4x100m relay final, where the Indian team will aim for a strong finish and possibly a place on the podium, capping off what has been a promising championship for the Indian contingent.

Earlier, India continued its strong showing on Day 4, highlighted by a gold medal-winning performance from Gulveer Singh in the men’s 5,000m event. Gulveer clocked a time of 28:38.63 to secure the top spot, while his compatriot Sawan Barwal finished just off the podium in fourth place.

In the field events, Nandini Agasara became only the third Indian to win gold in the heptathlon event while Pooja triumphed in the women’s high jump final. Parul Chaudhary broke the National record to bring home silver in thewomen’s 3000m steeplechase final.

By the end of Day 4, India bolstered its medal tally to a total of 18 medals, including eight gold and seven silver. Moreover, the country enhanced its lead over third-placed Japan, with the two nations now separated by four gold medals.
