Ayush Mhatre made his IPL debut in the ongoing season.
Youngster Ayush Mhatre made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier this season. Although CSK witnessed a topsy-turvy form in IPL 2025, the right-hander has come up with good performance ever since joining the yellow brigade as an injury replacement mid-way through the season.
The right-handed batsman slammed 240 runs in seven games with an average of 34.29 and a strike rate of 188.97. He also slammed a stunning knock of 94 runs in a game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Notably, he played as an opener for CSK in the tournament.
He also scored a quick-fire knock of 34 runs off 17 balls in CSK’s last match of the tournament against Gujarat Titans (GT). CSK won the toss and opted to bat first in the CSK vs GT clash. Mhatre stunned the crowd at Narendra Modi Stadium, smacking 28 runs in the 2nd over of Arshad Khan.
Ayush Mhatre registers highest strike-rate for CSK
After registering a phenomenal batting strike rate of 189.0 in IPL 2025, Mhatre has etched his name in CSK record books. He has registered the highest strike rate in a single season for the men in yellow. He leapfrogged Ajinkya Rahane, who held the previous record with a strike rate of 172.50 in IPL 2023, in the elite list.

Meanwhile, CSK finished at the bottom of the points table with six points. They have lost 10 and won just three from 13 matches. They face GT in their last match of the league stage on Sunday, May 25. The visitors CSK piled up a gigantic total of 230/5 in the encounter batting first.
Other than Mhatre, Devon Conway (52), Dewald Brevis (57), and Urvil Patel (37) slammed crucial knocks during the match. GT pacers largely failed to halt CSK batters from going big. Prasidh Krishna picked the two wickets for his team.
