Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the Eliminator of the IPL 2025
Mumbai Indians (MI) qualified for Qualifier two of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. They will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday (1st June) in Ahmedabad.
Opting to bat, MI were off to a flying start with the bat, courtesy of Jonny Bairstow (47) and Rohit Sharma (81). The duo were all over the GT bowlers, hitting them all over the park for their 84-run partnership.
After the England batter got out, Suryakumar Yadav (33) joined hands with Rohit, and the duo did further damage, adding 59 runs for the second wicket. Rohit slammed a brilliant fifty but couldn’t convert that into a ton.
Tilak Varma (25) played a decent hand, too, before Hardik Pandya (22*) finished the innings on high. Based on the collective effort with the bat, MI posted a total of 228 for five.
GT had a worst possible start to their innings as skipper Shubman Gill got out in the first over. But Sai Sudharsan (80) held one end up and gave a real scare to MI. Kusal Mendis (20) looked good but got hit-wicket as GT lost two wickets inside seven overs.
However, Washington Sundar (48) came up as a brilliant support for Sudharsan as the duo put MI under massive pressure with their 84-run stand. However, Jasprit Bumrah brought his team back into the game with the wicket of Sundar, and then Sudharsan also got out in the 16th over.
Sherfane Rutherford (24) kept his team in the hunt along with Rahul Tewatia (16*), but couldn’t take their team home as MI restricted GT to 208 for six to win the game by 20 runs.
