England announce playing 11 for 1st ODI against West Indies

This will be the first time that the England ODI team will be playing after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The England Cricket Team announced their playing XI for the first ODI against the West Indies Cricket Team. This marks the first game for Harry Brook as a full-time skipper after he was appointed as the white-ball captain of the 2019 World Cup winners.

England is all set to host the West Indies in the three-match ODI series. The opening game will be played on Thursday, 29 May, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The next two games are scheduled to take place on June 1st and 3rd in Cardiff and London, respectively.

Coming to the England 11 for the first ODI against the West Indies, Ben Duckett has retained his place as an opener in the team, but he will have a new opening partner. The team management has promoted Jamie Smith to the top and this will be the first time he will play as an opener.

Joe Root has been slotted at three while skipper Harry Brook will be batting at four. IPL-bound players Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, and Will Jacks, who recently returned home after their stint in the league, will be part of the playing XI for the first ODI against West Indies.

Buttler will be taking the wicketkeeping duties, while it will be a comeback game for Will Jacks. The all-rounder was included in the team for his brilliant performances in the IPL 2025, where he represented the Mumbai Indians.

Jamie Overton, Saqib Mahmood, and Brydon Carse will be forming the fast bowling lineup. Also, Adil Rashid will be there as a specialist spinner. The first ODI against West Indies will be the 150th game for the Three Lions in the 50-over format.

This will be the first time the England ODI team will play after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where they failed to win a single game. Under the leadership of Harry Brook, it will be the beginning of a new era in English cricket, and they would want to start it on a high.
