Goldberg sheds light on his ideal WWE retirement match

Goldberg wants to have his final match in Israel!

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is gearing up for one last match, but it turns out that his ideal send-off wasn’t what fans might have expected.

The legendary powerhouse, who hasn’t stepped inside the squared circle since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February 2022, recently revealed he had very different plans for his swan song.

Speaking on The Claw podcast with Ross and Marshall Von Erich, Goldberg opened up about his hopes for his final match and the emotional weight behind it.

“I’ll do anything for my faith,” Goldberg said. “Truth be told, my dream was to have my retirement match in Israel. Quite obviously, because of the surroundings right now and over the past five years, it just hasn’t been the right place to do it. I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that I was sorely disappointed that I couldn’t do something in Israel, but retired doesn’t mean dead.”

Despite his disappointment, the former WWE Universal Champion isn’t entirely closing the door on that possibility.

“I would be honored to go out there at some point, I really would. Never say never, but we’ve been trying to do it for the past number of years and it didn’t work out. Fingers crossed, that’s all you can do.”

Goldberg officially announced in November 2024 that he’d be stepping back into the ring for one final bout in 2025. Since then, the 58-year-old icon has been undergoing treatment for lingering injuries and working hard to get back into fighting shape.

He’s also revealed that his final match will likely take place “in the South,” though he’s kept the details close to the chest.

According to a report from Fightful Select, there’s internal chatter about Goldberg’s retirement match going down at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia, a location with deep personal and professional ties to the former NFL and WCW star.

Goldberg played for the Atlanta Falcons before joining WCW, and famously defeated Hulk Hogan in front of 41,000 fans at the Georgia Dome in July 1998 to win his first WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

While an opponent hasn’t been confirmed, rumors of a dream clash with Gunther have circulated for months. Regardless of who steps into the ring with him, Goldberg’s last match is set to be a thunderous finale for one of the most dominant forces in wrestling history.
