Real Betis, who play English team Chelsea in tonight’s 2024–25 UEFA Conference League final, will be looking to create history. Los Verdiblancos, who are aiming for their second victory under Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini, who guided them to the 2020–21 Copa del Rey, are playing in their first-ever major UEFA final.
There were raucous parties when Real Betis claimed the domestic cup, and if they bring the European trophy back to Seville, there will likely be even more outrageous celebrations.
Thousands of Béticos are travelling to the Polish city of Wrocław, where the final will be held at Wrocław Stadium. At the Estadio Benito Villamarín in Seville, even more people will watch the game on enormous screens.
Real Betis have proven their abilities by making it to this final. They advanced to the main event by defeating Gent, Vitória de Guimarães, Jagiellonia Białystok, and Fiorentina in the knockout stages.
They won the first three of those bouts by a combined score (over two legs) before defeating the Italian team in extra time of their semi-final, thanks to a late goal from Ez Abde in Florence.
How many trophies have Real Betis won in history?
Real Betis may not have a trophy-rich history, but they have managed to win some domestic titles since their existence.
Real Betis have won four major championships in their history, including three Copa del Rey trophies and one LaLiga trophy in 1934–35.
They now want to become the first Spanish team to win the UEFA Conference League in the fourth season of the competition’s history and add a piece of UEFA silverware to their trophy collection.
This is also an opportunity for Real Betis to win continental trophies, something their neighbour, Sevilla FC have frequently done. With a victory tonight, Los Verdiblancos will join Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Sevilla FC, Atletico de Madrid, Valencia CF, Villarreal CF, and Real Zaragoza as the eighth different Spanish club to win a major UEFA club championship.
