Alcaraz won his seventh ATP Masters 1000 title.
At the age of just 22, Carlos Alcaraz has now won all three clay court Masters 1000 titles alongside the French Open. The Spaniard stunned the local favourite and home crowd, defeating World No #1 Jannik Sinner in straight sets. It all began in an intense first set showdown, with both players not giving anything away.
The Italian had two break points in the twelfth game but couldn’t convert either. That missed opportunity proved costly, as Alcaraz not only held his nerve to save both but also rode the momentum into the tiebreak, edging it to claim the opening set.
The second set witnessed complete authority and destruction from the Spaniard, as he sped to a 5-0 lead. While Sinner was able to avoid a bagel, he could not prevent Alcaraz from claiming his 19th career title, and first ever in Rome.
“I’m proud of myself and the way I approached the game and the match. Mentally, in terms of hitting shots… tactically I think I did it pretty well. I didn’t do a rollercoaster. I maintained my good level the whole match. So, I’m really proud of everything over done today,” said the 2025 Rome winner.

While Sinner will be disappointed with the result, he can take plenty of positives from his performance, especially considering it was his first professional outing after a three-month injury layoff.
Italian Open 2025 prize money breakdown
Italian Open 2025 champion Carlos Alcaraz took home a massive $1,123,566 while runner-up Jannik Sinner earned $597,548. Meanwhile, semi-finalists Lorenzo Musetti and Tommy Paul were awarded $331,972 each for their impressive run.
Jack Draper, Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz and reigning champion Alexander Zverev, each earned $188,970 for their quarter-final finish at the ATP 1000 tournament. Corentin Moutet, Karen Khachanov, Francisco Cerundolo, Jaume Munar, Jakub Mensik, Alex de Minaur, Daniil Medvedev, and Arthur Fils, who were knocked out in the round of 16, received $103,165 each.

Jesper de Jong, Sebastian Ofner, Sebastian Korda, Matteo Berrettini, Marcos Giron, Fabian Marozsan, Tomas Machac, and Hugo Dellien, who bowed out of the tournament in the third round, pocketed $60,368.
The second-round finishers, including Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Matteo Gigante, Frances Tiafoe, Dušan Lajović, Mariano Navone, Nicholas Jarry, Alexander Bublik and others, will take home $35,240.
Italian Open 2025 points breakdown
Carlos Alcaraz’s victory helped him rise to World No #2, overtaking Alexander Zverev, who fell in the quarter-finals. Sinner, playing his first match after a three-month injury break, stays firmly at No #1 and crosses the 10K mark again.
Lorenzo Musetti’s semi-final run lifted him to No #8, pushing Alex de Minaur to No #9. Jack Draper, Novak Djokovic, Casper Ruud, and Holger Rune retained their respective rankings.
