Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz final prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Italian Open 2025

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will resume their rivalry in the final on Sunday.

Carlos Alcaraz dispatched Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 7-6(4) on a windy day in Rome to ease into his first Italian Open final. The boisterous Italian crowd could not prevent the Spaniard from advancing into his 25th tour-level final. The World No #2 defeated Musetti in a little over two hours, stretching his head-to-head lead in tour-level matches to 5-1.

Alcaraz’s win over Musetti places him alongside Stefan Edberg for the second-most wins from the first 100 matches at ATP Masters 1000 events. The Alcaraz is 77-23 (W/L) at this level, the same as Edberg. Alcaraz has fared better than his main rival, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who has a 74-26 record from his first 1000 matches in Masters events.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are all set to meet in a blockbuster final for the 11th time. It extends to 12th, including their face-off in the Challenger Tour from the early days of their careers. Alcaraz leads 6-4 against Sinner and has won their previous three matches.

After steamrolling Casper Ruud in the last eight, Sinner dropped his first of the tournament in the semi-finals against Tommy Paul. The American claimed the opening set, 6-1, to push the top seed on the back foot. Sinner brought the Italian crowd back to life by handing Paul a bagel in the second set after narrowly avoiding the fate in the first.

Sinner prevailed 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 in one hour and 44 minutes to enter his first ever Italian Open final. The top seed is now the first Italian to make the title round at home since Adriano Panatta in 1978. Incidentally, Panatta was also the last man to lift the Italian Open trophy in 1976.

Preview

While Alcaraz’s game was not watertight against Musetti in the last eight, it showcased the Spaniard’s grit as he chalked out a second straight win over the Italian in 2025. Alcaraz will need every inch of his famed tenacity when he takes on Sinner in Sunday’s final.

The No #2 seed will bid for his seventh ATP Masters title when he takes on Sinner, while the Italian will be on the hunt for his fifth. Sinner and Alcaraz have dropped just a set each en route to the final.

Another Alcaraz milestone this fortnight includes reaching the finals at six different ATP 1000 events. Not to be left behind, Sinner notched up his 26th straight win when he scripted a comeback win against Tommy Paul. It was a close call for the Italian, for had he lost, it would have extended the wait for an Italian finalist in Rome.

Interestingly, the upcoming final will be the first between Alcaraz and Sinner above an ATP 500 level.

Match prediction

Alcaraz will arrive for his summit clash against Sinner with a 14-1 clay court record since his Monte-Carlo title run in April. The Spaniard is 26-2 on clay since winning the French Open last season.

The Italian crowd on Sunday are guaranteed a show by the two rivals. It will be their third meeting on clay and the first since Alcaraz outlasted Sinner in a five-set thriller at Roland Garros last season.

Alcaraz’s game, tailor-made for clay, could do more than just push Sinner to the brink. While the World Number #1 has hit the ground running on his return and, aside from a hiccup in the semi-finals, has been on a roll in the Italian capital.

Their previous matches indicate a prolonged battle between the pair. The Spaniard has a 2-1 edge over Sinner on clay. The odds are on Sinner taking an early lead, but Alcaraz will likely sink his teeth into the match as it progresses.

Result: Carlos Alcaraz to win in three sets.
