Sai Sudharsan has earned a maiden test call-up for the England test series.
Indian cricketer Sai Sudharsan has earned a maiden call-up in tests for the upcoming India’s tour of England 2025. The left-handed batsman is set to commence a new chapter in his cricket career with the England series.
The 23-year-old has impressed with his performances in domestic cricket and Indian Premier League (IPL) for the last few years. Recently, he won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025 after smacking 759 runs in 15 games for Gujarat Titans (GT). He also slammed an incredible ton during the tournament.
During Ranji Trophy 2024-25 earlier this year, he mustered 304 runs in four innings for his Team Tamil Nadu with one century and one fifty. He accounts for 1957 runs in 29 games in first-class cricket with seven tons and five half-centuries, averaging 39.39.
Robin Uthappa feels Sai Sudharsan can play for India in all formats
During a conversation on Jio Hotstar, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa heaped praises on Sudharsan for his wonderful form in IPL 2025. He also believes that the GT opener can become an all-format player for India along with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
“Sai Sudharsan’s rise has been incredible. Just last season, he was retired out for not scoring quickly. This year, without changing his technique, he’s added smart shot selection and taken his strike rate from 130 to 170. Now he’s the Orange Cap holder”, the 39-year-old said.
“That’s mighty impressive. I genuinely believe he’s one of India’s future three-format players, right up there with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal,” the former wicketkeeper batsman further added.
Meanwhile, Sudharsan has also played three ODIs and one T20I for India in the past. He has impressed with his short stint in the ODIs, slamming two half-centuries across three games.
With the ouster of key batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from tests, Sudharsan is highly likely to make his debut in the England series. Notably, England and India will play five tests during the series from June 20 to August 4.
