Inter have a golden opportunity to win the Serie A as well as the UEFA Champions League and become one of the most decorated teams in Europe this season.

From Atalanta’s attacking duo of Lookman and Retegui scoring goals for fun to Inter’s solid defensive wall of Bastoni, this season unleashed the best out of many players. Out of so many youngsters, veteran and legendary icons, who have featured in this season of the Italian top flight, we shall try to find out the best combination of players who make it to our Serie A Team of the Season.

Serie A Team of the Season 2024-25 (4-4-2)

GK – Mile Svilar (AS Roma)

The 6 feet 2 inches tall Belgian custodian from Antwerp has plied his trade with SL Benfica and Anderlecht before making his move to the Serie A. His performance with AS Roma between the sticks was nothing less than spectacular this season.

Despite standing sixth, his acrobatics and safe reflexes saw Roma conceding one of the fewest goals this season and also registering one of the most clean sheets.

RB – Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Napoli)

The Italian right-back was a menace on the right flank with his overlapping runs, accelerations, and pinpoint crosses. After helping Empoli secure a promotion to Serie A, he joined Napoli in 2019 and has since won the Serie A and Coppa Italia trophies with Napoli.

Apart from just being a defensive right back, he contributed significantly to launching counterattacks. He found the back of the net thrice in the 35 Serie A games he featured and has been an important player for Napoli.

CB – Alessandro Bastoni (Inter)

Bastoni, the 26-year-old Italian centre back from Casalmaggiore, has been instrumental in Inter’s successful campaign so far, both domestically as well as in continental football. A product of Atalanta’s youth academy, Bastoni joined Inter in 2017.

He was as tough as a teak and sharp as a tack. Despite his disciplinary concerns, he was a rock-solid presence in Simone Inzaghi’s defensive setup.

CB – Amir Rrahmani (Napoli)

The Kosovan centre-back from Pristina played a pivotal role in helping Antonio Conte’s side establish an impenetrable defence that conceded the fewest goals of any team this season. He was part of the team that brought Italian glory to Naples in the 2022-23 season.

He featured in every single Napoli game this season and also scored one goal. He maintained an excellent passing accuracy of 92% and was a defensive powerhouse. He was the commander at the back, who marshalled his troops with precision and accuracy.

LB – Federico Dimarco (Inter)

Dimarco was a lethal presence on the left flank for Inter Milan. The 27-year-old, after serving his loan period at Parma and Hellas Verona, has unleashed the beast within in 2021. The Italian international played a crucial role in taking Inter into the UCL finals and also bringing them closer to Italian triumph.

He contributed significantly to the team’s attack. He himself found the back of the net four times and also weaved some of the finest assists for the attacking duo of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

RM – Ricardo Orsolini (Bologna)

The 28-year-old Italian winger from Ascoli Piceno tried very hard to keep Bologna’s hopes of playing continental football alive with his creativity and solid presence in the midfield. He formerly played for Juventus and was loaned to Bologna, where he found his rhythm back after a disappointing campaign with Atalanta.

His performance grabbed a lot of eyeballs, and he was offered a permanent contract. Since then, he has rendered his services to Bologna for more than half a decade. This season, he played an important role in taking Bologna to great heights.

CM – Khephren Thuram (Juventus)

Thuram, the Italian defensive midfielder and the progeny of a former Juventus legend, Lilian Thuram, has had an amazing season with Juventus. Amidst the uncertainties of Juventus making it to the UCL next season, Thuram is poised to play an essential role in helping Juventus win the next and final league game.

The 24-year-old French international has played every single game for Juventus this season. Apart from offering defensive stability, he contributed significantly to the offence, netting four goals and providing five crucial assists.

CM – Scott McTominay (Napoli)

The Scottish midfielder from Lancaster was unarguably one of the finest central midfielders of this season. After helping Manchester United win the FA Cup finals against arch rivals Manchester City, he switched allegiance to join Napoli.

He has been the heart of Napoli’s midfield this season. In the 32 games he played, he scored 11 goals and also contributed significantly during defensive transition plays.

LM – Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)

The Nigerian international had yet another successful campaign with Atalanta BC. After honing his skills for Everton and RB Leipzig, his breakthrough season came after joining Atalanta in the Italian top flight.

The Nigerian scored 15 goals in 30 matches, finding the back of the net in every two Serie A matches. His partnership with Retegui breathed fire into the opposition defence. After winning the Europa League last season, he showed no signs of slowing down.

ST – Romelu Lukaku (Napoli)

The Belgian centre forward has rediscovered his lost form after joining Napoli in 2024. Antonio Conte’s most loyal soldier reunited with the Italian gaffer after two successful stints together at San Siro and Stamford Bridge, winning the Serie A and Coppa Italia together.

He was a predator in the opposition D box and scored a total of 13 goals in 34 matches. His attacking prowess immensely benefited Napoli as they inch closer to winning the Serie A once again after a one-year gap.

ST – Mateo Retegui (Atalanta)

Mateo Retegui, the 26-year-old Italian centre forward, has been the best find of this Serie A season. The golden boot winner of this season has featured in every single game for Atalanta and found the back of the net 24 times.

His attacking prowess saw Atalanta emerge as the second-highest goalscoring team in the competition. He also led Atalanta to secure back-to-back tickets to the UEFA Champions League, including for the upcoming season.
