Virat Kohli becomes first batter to score 9000 runs in the tournament history


Virat Kohli has been a part of RCB since the first season of IPL in 2008.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are facing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 70th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, May 27. The encounter takes place at LSG’s home ground- Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

RCB skipper Jitesh Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant slammed a marvellous century, slamming an unbeaten 118 runs. He propelled the scoreboard to a gigantic total of 227/3 in the first innings. Mitchell Marsh also added crucial 67 runs for the team.

RCB bowlers completely failed to attack LSG batsmen. During the gigantic chase, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Phil Salt etched an opening stand of 61 runs. Kohli reached his half-century in the 10th over. Kohli achieved an incredible feat in his T20 career as well.

Virat Kohli touched the 9000 run mark

The right-handed batsman has reached the tally of 9000 runs in T20s for RCB. Notably, this also includes his performances in IPL and now defunct Champions League over the years. Kohli has been part of RCB since the debut season in 2008.

Interestingly, Kohli is far ahead of other batsmen in the list. Rohit Sharma occupies the second spot with more than 6000 runs for Mumbai Indians (MI). Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have scored more than 5000 runs for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Below is the list of the top five batters with the most T20 runs for a team.

Meanwhile, Kohli is also the all-time leading run-scorer in IPL with more than 8500 runs in the tournament. He also slammed the most centuries in the IPL. Kohli also led RCB from 2013 to 2021 seasons.

Kohli has done a marvellous job in the ongoing IPL 2025. He is the leading run-scorer for the side and also smacked eight half-centuries in the tournament, including the one against LSG in the ongoing clash.
