Aiden Markram slammed a sensational hundred in the fourth innings of ICC WTC 2023-25 final.
Australia and South Africa are battling out each other in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final at the Lord’s in London. The Proteas have gained dominance on day 3 of the summit clash after opener Aiden Markram slammed a marvellous century to drive South Africa closer to victory.
The Pat Cummins & Co. set a mammoth target of 282 runs for the Temba Bavuma-led side in the final innings. Markram, who got out for a duck in the first innings, made a fabulous comeback with a sensational ton in the second innings.
With Bavuma’s support with a half-century, South Africa reached 213/2 on the scoreboard at the stumps of day 3. Now, they need just 69 runs more for victory. Earlier in the game, Bavuma won the toss and opted to bowl first. In the first innings, Australia piled up 212/10, while South Africa were bowled out for 138. Later, the Aussies put up 207/10 in the second innings.
Virat Kohli’s old tweet goes viral after Aiden Markram’s ton
After Markram slammed a century in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, Virat Kohli’s seven-year-old tweet went viral on micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter). During a South Africa vs Australia test match in March 2018, Kohli had lauded Markram on X for his batting.
“Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!,” the Indian batting legend had tweeted. Have a look at the old tweet below.
Notably, during the test match between both sides at Cape Town seven years back, Markram got out for a duck in the first innings. However, he later returned with a 84-run knock in the second innings as the Proteas won the match by a huge margin of 322 runs.
The Faf du Plessis-led side piled up 311/10 in the first innings and bowled out Australia for 255. Later, Markram’s 84 runs in the second innings helped them to reach 373 runs in the second innings and set up a gigantic 430-run target for the visitors. The Steve Smith-led Aussies succumbed to the pressure and were bowled out for just 107 runs.
