Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025 to book their place in the final.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) qualified for the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. They will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday (3rd June).
After being asked to bat, MI didn’t have a great start to their innings as Rohit Sharma (8) got out early in the third over. But Jonny Bairstow (38) and Tilak Varma (44) made up for the early loss. They attacked PBKS bowlers in the powerplay and added 51 runs for the second wicket.
Suryakumar Yadav (44), who came in at four, continued his golden form and played another brilliant innings, going past 700 runs in the season. He, along with Tilak, did further damage as the duo stitched 72 runs for the third wicket, taking MI past 140 runs.
Skipper Hardik Pandya (15) struggled with his timing, but Naman Dhir (37) played a brilliant cameo in the end to power MI to 203 for six. For PBKS, Azmatullah Omarzai picked two wickets.
In the chase, PBKS lost Prabhsimran Singh (6) early. But Josh Inglis (38) put pressure back on MI with his brutal innings, slamming Jasprit Bumrah for 20 runs in an over. However, the Hardik Pandya-led side made a strong comeback as they removed Priyansh Arya (20) and Inglis in quick succession, leaving PBKS at 72 for three.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer (87*) and Nehal Wadhera (48) joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble as they counter-attacked the MI bowlers and put their team in a comfortable position.
After Wadhera got out, Iyer went on to slam a half-century and then unleashed himself. He remained unbeaten in the end and took his team to the final as PBKS beat MI by five wickets.
