Sunderland, Leeds United and Burnley earned promotion to the Premier League.
The teams that will be contesting in the 2025–2026 Premier League league table have been confirmed.
Sunderland’s EFL Championship promotion play-off win earned them a spot in the Premier League. They are just one of three clubs getting entry in the English first tier for the 2025-26 season. The last three placed sides from the 2024-25 PL season are demoted to the Championship.
Leeds, who are owned by the San Francisco 49ers, defeated Burnley for the Championship title on goal differential. They finished at the top of the league and secured their place back in the English top flight for next season. Both the Peacocks and the Clarets had earned 100 points each.
Besides Leeds, the Clarets also reached the Premier League. They were demoted to the Championship just the season prior.
Meanwhile, Sunderland had to fight during the play-off final round against Sheffield United to earn promotion to the league. They return with their rich history after finishing fourth and defeating Sheffield United, who came in third, in the play-off final.
Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town—the three promoted teams from the previous season couldn’t fight to stay up in the league. Their poor performance in the league saw them dropped back to the Championship just after a season.
This season’s Premier League (2024-25) will end today. All the matches are set to be played at the same time. The league will wrap up and commence the new season in August.
Liverpool, who won the title this season, will be looking to defend the championship going into the next campaign. The league will certainly have many contenders for the title next term.
In May of next year, will we see Liverpool at the top again, or will another team take their spot for the league title? The 20 teams that will be competing in the 2025-26 Premier League season are as follows:
