The Romanian has previously managed Inter’s youth teams.
As per reports, Inter Milan will soon confirm Cristian Chivu as their new manager. He will succeed Simone Inzaghi at the club.
Inter Milan have already made up their mind. Cristian Chivu has been chosen by the Nerazzurri to take Simone Inzaghi’s place. In order to succeed, Inzaghi, the Nerazzurri had been trying to sign Cesc Fabregas.
Mirwan Suwarson, the president of Como, vehemently rejected the Nerazzurri’s interest and declared that the Lariani would not allow the Spaniard to be released.
Patrick Vieira, the coach of Genoa, was also allegedly on Inter’s shortlist. Inter made a snap decision to hire Chivu as coach as it became apparent that Fabregas would not be joining the team.
Yesterday’s meeting was with Chivu and his delegates. Inter talked about the specifics of the project and the 44-year-old’s contract, and everything went well.
Who is the new Inter Milan manager, Cristian Chivu?
Cristian Eugen Chivu is a former player and current professional football coach from Romania. Chivu began taking UEFA Pro Licence classes at Coverciano in August 2019. He was named Inter Milan Primavera’s new head coach in July 2021.
He was named the new head coach of Serie A team Parma on February 18, 2025, where he had signed a deal that would last until June 2026. Chivu’s experience as a senior coach is somewhat limited.
The former defender did coach Inter’s youth team for a number of years. He has only overseen thirteen senior games, though.
All of these occurred at Parma. Fabio Pecchia was replaced by Chivu in February as the Emilians fought to avoid relegation. Additionally, he managed to keep them in Serie A.
Parma only won three of Chivu’s thirteen games in charge. The Gialloblu barely managed to maintain their position in the first division. But they were scarcely consistent in form.
Chivu should be concerned about this because it’s obvious that consistency will be expected at Inter week in and week out. However, his previous stint demonstrated that Chivu was at ease putting his team on the big stage despite having a small roster.
It is evident that the 44-year-old’s defensive resilience, focus, and ability to follow a strategy and defeat more formidable opponents were important contributions to the Stadio Enrico Tardini.
What formation does Chivu use, and what is his style of play?
Nonetheless, the Nerazzurri administration may have made this choice for two good reasons.
There is a tactical component to the first reason. Chivu used the 3-5-2 formation in his most recent games with Parma, which actually helped him ensure the team’s survival in the league.
He accomplished significant outcomes with this method, including the victories over Juventus, Lazio, and Napoli, and the last matchday victory over Atalanta. Therefore, his arrival could provide tactical and technical continuity without requiring significant squad adjustments.
Chivu’s strong affinity for the Nerazzurri colours is another factor that might support his selection at this sensitive time. Prior to this, he had coached the Primavera, which won the championship in 2021–2022, and the youth teams.
